Sophie Turner & Kit Harington To Reteam On Gothic Horror ‘The Dreadful’

After starring together across all eight seasons of HBO’s hugely popular fantasy series Game of Thrones, Sophie Turner and Kit Harington are set to reunite on The Dreadful, a Gothic horror film launching sales at EFM through UTA Independent Film Group and Film Bridge International.

Written and to be directed by Natasha Kermani (Lucky, V/H/S/85), the film set against the backdrop of the War of the Roses follows Anne (Turner) and her mother-in-law Morwen, who live a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society. But when a man (Harington) from their past returns, he will set off a sequence of events that become a turning point for Anne.

In addition to Turner, producers on the film include Redwire Pictures/Tunnel’s Luke Daniels, as well as Storyboard Media’s Patrick Muldoon and Patrick Hibler, and Lucas Jarach. Greg Lauritano also produces under his Black Magic banner. Film Bridge International is repping foreign sales, with UTA Independent Film Group handling domestic.

More recently, Turner has been seen in Netflix’s Do Revenge and Max’s crime drama The Staircase, among other projects.

Harington, meanwhile, has starred in Apple’s Extrapolations and Marvel’s Eternals.

A segment director on anthology film V/H/S/85, which hit Shudder last fall, Kermani also previously helmed SXSW horror drama Lucky, sci-fi drama Imitation Girl and the thriller Shattered.

Kermani is represented by UTA, Persistent and attorney Marios Rush; Turner by CAA and Independent Talent Group; and Harington by UTA, United Agents and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. [Source]

Kit Harington Producing TV Series Described As A “Very British Western”

Kit Harington is producing a TV thriller described as a “very British Western,” about a hotshot who discovers his family is running a drugs racket.

Empire of Dirt [working title] is being produced by Harington and Top Boy scribe Daniel West’s Thriker Films with Des producer New Pictures. Cast is unconfirmed and Harington could yet play the lead.

The eight-part thriller follows Jake, a big name in the big city who reluctantly returns to his family farm in the Lake District for a distant cousin’s wedding.

He hasn’t been home for 15 years but following a tragic accident finds himself the unwilling head of his family, before discovering the unthinkable, that his father had been running a multimillion-pound drugs racket from a hidden corner of his family land.

Harington and West said the show, which is part-funded and distributed by associate developer All3Media International, is a “very British Western, set against the Lake District’s stunning visual backdrop.”

“The Galloways are a family fighting to survive, wrestling with their identity, trauma and the burden of inheritance, as ancient traditions collide with the mores of modern Britain,” they added.

New Pictures CEO Willow Grylls said the show is “thrilling, dangerous and fun, but always with a searing emotional core.”

Harington’s Thriker production vehicle was also behind BBC hit Gunpowder, which counted Harington as lead and West as EP. Harington just wrapped Village Roadshow, Macro and BK Studios movie Eternal Return. Last week, he opened up for the first time about how the fame he achieved while playing Jon Snow in HBO smash Game of Thrones caused him to struggle with mental health issues and alcoholism.

All3Media-owned New Pictures’ recent credits, meanwhile, include David Tennant-starring ITV hit Des, George Kay’s The Long Shadow and BBC/Netflix musical drama series Champion.

Empire of Dirt is developed in association with All3Media International, which is distributing. [Source]

At Milan Fashion Week, Kit Harington kickstarts his Industry revolution

The actor talks Fendi, changing fits and his next role in the world of finance bro drama

“My worst tendency, when it comes to style, is to be too classically British,” says Kit Harington over the phone from Milan, where he’s making a flying front row visit for fashion week. “Looking like a bit of an old fusty. I’ve been trying to push myself a bit more recently.”

As a certified Fendi Guy with access to the storied Roman house’s best and boldest, Harington has, over the last couple of the years, become something of an under-the-radar fit god. He’s a great wearer of trousers with a bit of volume. And then there’s adventurous tailoring that doesn’t veer into costume territory.

“I spent a long time for going for the exact same type of suit at every event I went to, much to the despair of many fashion houses. Fendi moved me out of that comfort zone. I wore a suit of theirs a couple of years ago that was very comfortable and I was happy in it, which was the start of a new phase for me.”

Part of that new-found menswear confidence arrived naturally, with a bit of age and experience. “I think I have more of of that ‘fuck it’ attitude now,” says Kit Harington. “I guess in my 20s there was a feeling of not wanting to rock the boat too much, but now I hope that my trajectory in life is to become one of those crazily dressed old people. Incredible style and hurtling towards the end of their life and thinking, ‘Why not?’ That’s the trajectory that I’m on.”

After years spent in the pressure cooker of Sunday night prestige TV, Harington is enjoying some time exploring different avenues, playing kings on stage and practicing his studiously detached front row face. “I am finding it increasingly interesting,” he says. “I’m a restless person so that intense, 10 minute performance element of a fashion show fits that feeling. It’s amazing to see how much work and creative effort goes into each side of it.”

Kit Harington Opens Up About His Mental Health Struggles

Kit Harington says his fame from HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones caused him to struggle with mental health issues and alcoholism.

Speaking on the wellness podcast Hidden 20%, Harington said he entered rehab in 2019 for alcoholism, and was diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) while there.

“I realized that my life was hinging on this,” he told host Ben Branson. “Luckily, it was the right place at the right time. I managed to forge a new life from there.”

Harington claimed that he “entered rehab drunk, sobered up in there, and went, ‘F— this, not you guys in a circle. No, thank you.’”

Harington eventually went to a second rehab facility, was where he was made aware of his ADHD.

“And I left that pretty quick and said, ‘I’ll try to deal with this by myself,’ which didn’t work after about four years,” he said.

Harington now says he’s “sober and “present,” and is focused on his son, 2 years old, and daughter, 6 months. He shares his kids with Game of Thrones co-star and wife, Rose Leslie.

“My head wants to go to every other thing in the room at once,” he said, adding that he is sometimes “restless” when he plays with his young children.

Game of Thrones, where he memorably played Jon Snow from 2011 until 2019, saw instant fame, which was hard on him.

Harington “tried to project this image of utter sophistication and coolness about what I was doing, but genuinely being sort of terrified about everything.”

That led to a downward spiral when it was coming to an end.

“That is a dangerous rabbit hole to fall down, because you find all of the bad stuff that people are saying as well as the nice stuff,” he said. [Source]

A Ghost Story for Christmas: Kit Harington teases “wonderfully scary and frightful” Lot No. 249

Mark Gatiss’ adaptation of the Arthur Conan Doyle short story comes to BBC Two this Christmas, starring Kit Harington and Freddie Fox.

1881. Old College, Oxford plays host to three very different young academics: Abercrombie Smith (Kit Harington), a model of Victorian manhood, clean of limb and sound of mind; Monkhouse Lee (Colin Ryan), a delicate and unworldly student from Siam; and the strange and exotic Edward Bellingham (Freddie Fox), whose arcane research into Ancient Egypt is the talk of the campus. Could Bellingham’s unnatural experiments bring the breath of life to the horrifying bag of bones tagged Lot No.249?

An end-of-Empire chiller, Lot No. 249 stars Kit Harington, Freddie Fox, Colin Ryan, John Heffernan, James Swanton, Jonathan Rigby and Andrew Horton.

Watch A Ghost Story for Christmas: Lot No.249 on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer from 24 December at 10pm

Can you give an overview of Lot No. 249?

On the surface it’s a ripping old yarn about an Egyptian mummy terrorising an Oxford campus! Freddie Fox releases a murderous zombie and my character smells a rat and tries to stop him. But maybe once you release something like that… it can’t be put back in its box! It’s a really fun caper penned originally by Conan Doyle and made into a wonderfully scary and frightful Christmas ghost story by the marvellous Mark Gatiss.

Tell us about your character – Abercrombie Smith?

He plays with a straight bat! Very proper. Doesn’t want anything disturbing his world order. Doesn’t trust anything that’s not out of the text books of the time… he’ll stick to his phrenology and be done with it, thank you very much!

What was it like working with Mark Gatiss and your fellow cast members – Freddie Fox et al?

A dream. I have loved Gatiss and his work for a long time and I adore his series of Christmas ghost stories. Freddie is a great, kind, generous and brilliant actor. It was rapid and fun and that was what Mark promised me. Let’s get in, shoot something fun and sit around at Christmas with mince pies and watch it. What a joy.

Kit Harington Teaming With Mark Gatiss to Adapt ‘Sherlock’ Author’s Ghost Story

Kit Harington is reuniting with fellow Game of Thrones alum Mark Gatiss for a new BBC adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle.

Gatiss — who co-created the BBC’s wildly popular Sherlock based on Doyle’s novels — is adapting Doyle’s short story “Lot No. 249.”

The move keeps with an annual tradition of Gatiss writing and directing a televised ghost story for Christmas.

Harington stars with Freddie Fox (The Great) in a story that “revolves around a group of Oxford students, one of whom undertakes research into the secrets of Ancient Egypt, which become the talk of the college. Can these experiments truly breathe life to the horrifying bag of bones which is the mysterious Lot. No 249?”

Says Gatiss: “It’s a serious delight for me to delve once again into the brilliant work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this time for the Christmas ghost story. Lot No.249 is personal favourite and is the grand-daddy (or should that be Mummy?) of a particular kind of end of Empire chiller: a ripping yarn packed with ghastly scares and who-knows-what lurking in the Victorian closet …”

The project produced by Adorable Media for BBC Arts and will air on BBC Two this Christmas. A U.S. distributor has not yet been named.

Harington recently appeared in the Apple TV+ anthology series Extrapolations, and stars in the upcoming film Blood for Dust, which received positive reviews this summer at the Tribeca Film Festival. [Source]

Kit Harington helps Line of Duty’s Tommy Jessop’s bid for groundbreaking Hollywood role

Line of Duty actor Tommy Jessop and his brother called on the likes of Game of Thrones star Kit Harington and Scream icon Neve Campbell amid their bid to make a groundbreaking Hollywood movie

When it comes to breaking America, the streets are littered with the broken dreams and severely dented egos of many a British actor.

So the thought of a pair of brothers turning up in Los Angeles with a hand-held camera and the hope of making the first Down syndrome superhero film seems unlikely to succeed. But then again when one of those brothers is Line of Duty star Tommy Jessop, who shot to fame in the show as murder suspect Terry Boyle, determination and a tendency to beat the odds is something he has in spades.

Soon 38-year-old Tommy and his brother Will have drafted in stars such as Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington and Scream actor Neve Campbell, charmed their way into a stunt training day to shoot an action trailer before flying out to LA in a bid to get a Hollywood movie – Roger the Superhero – made.

Tommy says: “I have watched countless superhero films in the past and I think it’s about time someone with Down syndrome should play a superhero. We should always be speaking up for the rights of people with Down syndrome so that we are able to make our own choices in life.”

And while his character in Line of Duty was watched by more than 12 million viewers, after the finale in 2021 Tommy has found work has been a little thin on the ground. Deciding to take matters into his own hands he teams up with his filmmaker brother Will to do a one-off BBC special, Tommy Jessop goes to Hollywood.

In the documentary, Tommy and Will employ various tactics to get Hollywood to notice Roger, including sending video messages to A-listers to ask them to play Tommy’s baddie, prompting GoT star Kit to read with Tommy for the role. Kit says: “My cousin, Laurent, has Down syndrome and I’ve always felt with him that he has abilities that I don’t have, and that people with Down syndrome don’t have.

Kit Harington, Naomi Scott, Jeremy Irons Romance Epic ‘Eternal Return’ to Hit Cannes Market

“Aladdin” and “Charlie’s Angels” breakout Naomi Scott will star alongside “Game of Thrones” alum Kit Harrington and Oscar winner Jeremy Irons in the epic romance “Eternal Return,” Variety can report exclusively. Village Roadshow Pictures is producing the project and will introduce the film to buyers at next week’s Cannes Film Festival.

“Eternal Return” follows Cass (Scott), a young woman who has resigned herself to a life of emotional invulnerability until she meets Virgil (Harington), a cartographer who makes maps to imaginary places. Along with his partner Malcolm (Irons), a vibrant renaissance man, the pair relentlessly attempts to travel back in time to awaken Cass to love again. The original feature is written and directed by Yaniv Raz (“Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets”).

Jillian Apfelbaum, Tristen Tuckfield, and Nic Gordon are overseeing the project for Village Roadshow. They will produce alongside Scott and Jordan Spence’s New Name Entertainment. The in-house production is one of several that Village Roadshow, led by veteran executive Steve Mosko, has been cooking throughout the pandemic. Though the company has wide brand recognition, Village Roadshow was a passive film financier until Mosko landed at the shop in late 2018. Historically, it has had a hand in older performers like “Miss Congeniality” and “The Matrix” up to the recent Joaquin Phoenix box office juggernaut “Joker.”
