Kit Harington on Letting His Son Watch His NSFW Game of Thrones Scenes

Kit Harington has no qualms about one day showing his son his raunchier Game of Thrones scenes.

The actor, who shares his 9-month-old baby boy with Thrones costar and wife Rose Leslie, recently chatted with E! News’ Daily Pop about his whether he’ll eventually let his son watch the series — and how he plans on discussing the show with his little one.

Harington, 34, said he’ll most likely tell his son, “Look, I mean, you can just be thankful that it happened because otherwise you wouldn’t be here.”

“So that will be it,” he said, cracking a smile. “I’ll be like, ‘You don’t like watching it? Well, tough luck.”

As for now, Harington said he is staying focused on spending time with his baby boy.

“I’m going through something at the moment which is that I spend weeks prior to coming out here sort of, you know, feeding him, pampering him, looking after him,” the actor said. “And then I go to get on a flight, come here, and now I’m looked after and being pampered. So I’m living the dream right now!”

Leslie, 34, confirmed their pregnancy in September 2020 after she debuted her baby bump for U.K.’s Make Magazine and spoke about how the couple had been spending quality time together in their Tudor manor house in East Anglia amid the pandemic. PEOPLE then confirmed in February that Harington and his wife had welcomed their first baby. Continue reading  »

Meryl Streep, Kit Harington to Head Cast of Apple Climate Change Anthology

Scott Z. Burns’ climate change anthology drama series Extrapolations has set a star-studded cast.

The Apple TV+ series has cast stars including Meryl Streep, Sienna Miller, Kit Harington, Tahar Rahim, Matthew Rhys, Daveed Diggs, Gemma Chan, David Schwimmer and Adarsh Gourav to lead the series.

The series, which is now in production, tells stories of how the upcoming changes to the planet will affect love, faith, work and family on a personal and human scale. Told over a season of eight interconnected episodes, each story in the scripted series will track the worldwide battle for our mutual survival spanning the 21st century.

It comes from Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res with Burns as writer, director and exec producer. Ellenberg, Greg Jacobs, Dorothy Fortenberry and Lindsey Springer also exec produce.

“The only thing we know for sure about the future is that we are all going there together— and we’re taking with us our hopes, our fears, our appetites, our creativity, our capacity for love and our predilection to cause pain,” said Burns. “These are the same tools that storytellers have been using since the beginning of time. Our show is just using them to keep time from running out.”

Streep’s role has not been disclosed, but Miller will play marine biologist Rebecca Shearer, Harington plays Nicholas Bilton, the CEO of an industrial giant, Rahim plays Ezra Haddad, a man struggling with memory loss, Rhys stars as Junior, a real estate developer, Diggs is Marshall Zucker, a Rabbi in South Florida, Chan plays Natasha Alper, a single mother and micro-finance banker, Schwimmer stars as Harris Goldblatt, a father to a teenage daughter, and Gourav will play Gaurav, a driver for hire. Kit Harington Says ‘Game of Thrones’ “Directly” Led to His Mental Health Issues

Kit Harington has opened up about the toll Game of Thrones took on his mental health, revealing he had to take a year off after the HBO epic concluded.

Speaking recently on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, the 34-year-old actor said the “nature” of the violent, intense, emotional series “directly” broke him down in reality.

“I went through some mental health difficulties after Thrones, and during the end of Thrones, to be honest,” Harington told Cagle. “I think it was directly due to the nature of the show and what I had been doing for years.”

Harington said he made the decision to take a break after Game of Thrones to “really concentrate on myself,” adding, “I’m really happy I did that.”

Harington starred as Jon Snow on the series, which turned into a cultural obsession, running for eight seasons.

It was widely reported that in May 2019 — that same month Game of Thrones ended — Harington checked into a mental health and wellness facility to seek help for “some personal issues.”

“Just when I was wanting to come back to work the pandemic hit,” he said of moving onward. The actor recently filmed an episode of Modern Love, the second season of which hits Amazon Prime on Friday, just for the sake of fun, he said.

“You don’t have to live in that intense place all the time,” Harington said. “Why don’t you do something that takes the weight off? Why don’t you do something fun?”

Next up, Harington will star Marvel’s Eternals, due in theaters Nov. 5. [Source]

Kit Harington to play Henry V at the Donmar Warehouse

Game of Thrones star will appear in production focusing on modern political power, part of the London theatre’s reopening season

Kit Harington is to star as Shakespeare’s Henry V in a modern-day staging that examines the corrupting influence of power and “leadership in a time of crisis”.

The production will be presented in February next year at a newly renovated Donmar Warehouse in London, whose artistic director, Michael Longhurst, has planned a reopening season of plays exploring the individual’s role within society. Harington, best known as Jon Snow in the TV juggernaut Game of Thrones, has already been seen in the realm of “fantasy leadership”, said Longhurst. As Henry V, he will explore “modern political power and the psychology behind that”. The show will be directed by Max Webster, whose acclaimed Life of Pi transfers to the West End later this year.

Webster is “not interested in a production that has boys waggling swords”, said Longhurst. “We are, rightly, really looking at our leadership in a time of crisis and how it steps up or doesn’t, and how power can corrupt and what it means to have a privileged white man running a country that is much more diverse than that. And also, of course, our relationship with those across the Channel feels absolutely relevant right now – and unification is a theme running though Henry V.” Continue reading  »

Why Kit Harington Had to Use a Body Double For THAT Scene on ‘Game of Thrones’

The eight-season run of Game of Thrones featured a world with plenty of violence and debauchery. In the midst of it all, numerous actors bared all on camera for a multitude of different reasons.

But for star Kit Harington, showing off his naked bum during season 3 wasn’t an option. Instead, he used a body double in THAT scene for a very specific reason.

‘Game of Thrones’ was Kit Harington’s first TV acting credit

Before he landed the role of Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, the only credits Harington had on his resume were two theatre roles from London’s Central West End. Harington starred in War Horse in 2008 and 2009, and in Posh in 2010.

Despite his lack of experience, Harington was able to snag a leading role in what would become the biggest TV show on the planet. It made him a star almost overnight, but he told GQ in 2014 that he never saw himself as a leading man.

“I didn’t really think I’d be a leading man in any respect whatsoever,” Harington confessed. “At drama school in my third year I was resigned to the fate of being Young Male Rape Victim No. 2. That was the kind of category I was put in. I’ve got a very baby face underneath all of this fuzz.”

His baby face, though, was a big factor in Harington getting the role. At the beginning of George R. R. Martin’s books, Jon Snow is around the age of 14. This is how the showrunners asked him to play the character in the pilot.

But when he tried to pass as a teenager while being in his early 20s, it didn’t work. Producers told Harington that he was too clean cut and he needed to grow his hair and beard. Continue reading  »

Dressing room secrets of Kit Harington

Forget the room where it happens. The real action goes down in the room before it happens.

British photographer Simon Annand has been taking pictures of actors onstage in London for more than 30 years, but his latest book, “Time To Act,” focuses on those mysterious moments before the curtain goes up. A-listers such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett let Annand into their private backstage domains to witness their pre-show rituals.

“They do trust me,” Annand told The Post. “The very famous ones have been photographed many times and they can second guess the motives of the photographer.

He even photographed an early-career Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who’s on the book’s cover, in 2009. “It was probably three or four years before she had even conceived of, let alone written ‘Fleabag,’” he said. “It was evident to me that she was far too bright to hang around waiting to be hired like a normal actor.”

It’s that kind of drive that inspires him.

“For me, it is literally to show the discipline, skill and focus required of performing live repeatedly eight times a week. And to show that the actors who choose to take on that challenge are not just vacant celebrities,” Anand added. “They really do want the challenge.”

Kit Harington

When Harington starred in “True West” in 2018, he was one of the most famous actors in the world thanks to “Game of Thrones.” Returning to the West End, where he had appeared in “War Horse” a decade earlier, let him briefly escape the media spotlight for less-blinding stage lights.

“He told me he just got married to [”GoT” co-star] Rose Leslie,” Annand said. “So there was a lot going on in his life at that point.”

But Harington, now 33, had a serenity Annand didn’t remember from when the actor was 20. “He was concentrating more than I have seen him do in the past because of the weight of the responsibility,” the photographer said of Harington’s commitment to the Sam Shepard play. [Source]

Peter Pan GOSH legacy to get new boost from audio book of J M Barrie’s famous story

J M Barrie’s legacy to the nation’s sick children is to receive a fresh boost from the latest edition of the Angus author’s most famous fairytale.

Part of the profits from sales of the audio book will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, continuing Barrie’s legacy to the hospital he gifted the rights to Peter Pan to in 1929.

Barrie aficionado Lumley has been joined by an all-star stage and screen cast including Kit Harington, Alex Jennings, Alex Kingston, Helen McCrory, Jennifer Saunders, Juliet Stevenson, David Walliams and Zoe Wanamaker for the project.

The story has been abridged by Martin Jarvis, who also reads, and introduced by renowned children’s author, Sir Michael Morpurgo.

Ms Lumley said: “He haunts us all: Peter Pan has never grown up and has never let us forget him.

“His shadow found in a drawer by Tinker Bell trails round the corners of our eyes.

“As I now know, like a grown-up Wendy, that most of our lives are lived in our minds, this strange, thrilling, charming and unsettling work beckons children and adults alike into the world of make-believe, without which our lives would be intolerable.

“A host of stars has gathered to read the story aloud; their gift to the charity is a gift to us all.”

Originally written as a play, the much-loved story of the boy who could fly and his pirate adventures in Neverland with the Lost Boys and the Darling children, was first published as a novel, Peter & Wendy, in 1911.

The book has gone on to sell over 85 million copies in 29 different languages, as well as being made into 13 films. Continue reading  »

‘Game of Thrones’ Creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff’s Prank Left Kit Harington Quaking

During their eight-season run on HBO, Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff had a habit of playing pranks on the cast and crew. Not only did they prank Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) during season 1, they also got one over on Kit Harington (Jon Snow) that left him quaking.

Kit Harington believed he would have to play Jon Snow disfigured and bald

According to Business Insider, Weiss and Benioff got Harington good while shooting the eighth episode of season 1 titled “The Pointy End.” The producers convinced Harington that Jon Snow was going to suffer horrible burns. They told him that it would destroy his hair and disfigure his face, which meant hours in the makeup chair for the rest of the series.

GOT writer and producer Bryan Cogman wrote in his book Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones: Season 1 & 2 that the aired version of the episode featured Jon Snow setting a wight on fire at Castle Black to protect Lord Commander Mormont (James Cosmo).

But Weiss and Benioff sent Harington a fake version of the script. In the scene they gave Harington, Jon Snow pulls burning drapes from a fire and throws them at the wight. The fire proceeds to engulf them both with Mormont exclaiming, “Gods boy. I was wrong about you. You’re a ranger, through and through.”

The fake scene ended with the line, “Jon smiles, his teeth shining brightly in his destroyed face. Mormont, sickened, has to look away.” Continue reading  »

Brand & Business: BIRTH announces UK office with a couple of locals, Kit Harington and Tobias Menzies

If you’re a French production house looking to make the official announcement of your UK launch, who better to turn to than a couple of locals? Thanks to the incredible support of The Crown’s Tobias Menzies and Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington, Paris-based production house BIRTH found some of the best to break the ice. The “Fabulous New Roster of the Bloody French” introduces BIRTH UK, with a launch that marks an important step in the production company’s international expansion, as it also opens an office in Algiers, 2Horloges.

THE FILM

Self-deprecating and slightly absurd, “The Fabulous New Roster of the Bloody French” was created by executive producer Maëva Demurger and director Leo Bill, and came about thanks to a friendship they developed with Tobias working on another project. When the time came to announce the launch of BIRTH UK (which opened one year ago), the pair wanted to get just the right tone with a distinctly British feel. And how much more British can you get than one of the stars of a series featuring the royal family? The story grew from there.

“As Leo and I developed the idea, we then thought it would be good to have somebody else for Tobias to play off. A crazy notion came to mind: what if we could get Kit Harington? Amazingly, we managed to get in touch, told him about the concept, and to our delight, he loved the idea and was more than happy to come on board,” explained Maëva. [Source]

Kit Harington never wanted Jon Snow to be king: “His place is in the north”

“I could go on about this for hours,” the Jon Snow actor said about his character’s fate.

Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has revealed that the show’s controversial ending was right for his character, as he would “never have been happy” on the Iron Throne.

Although a year has passed since the HBO fantasy series came to an end, some fans are still upset with the last episode, which saw Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) become the king of the Seven Kingdoms instead of Jon, who was the actual heir to the Westeros crown.

However, in a video posted on @purple_dwagon’s Twitter page, Harington said that Jon’s place was always north of the wall.

“When people say to me, ‘Oh I wish you had been on the Throne’, or ‘I wish you had been with Dany on the Throne,’ I disagree because Jon’s place was always in the north. He would never have been happy in the south,” he began.

He then compared Jon to his adoptive father Ned Stark, who was executed in the show’s first season. “He’s like Ned Stark. If Ned goes south, he’s in danger. It’s like when Tormund says to [Jon], you’re the north. He belongs north of the wall.”

Although it is unclear when this video interview was filmed, Harington admitted that he hadn’t seen the Game of Thrones’ finale.

“I haven’t seen it, so I don’t know if I managed to pull it off, but what I tried to do with the ending was show he’s been saddled with this weight all the way through the series, and he’s this heavy character, he’s literally got a cloak on and he’s heavy.”

He continued, “and I wanted that last bit for there to be a lightness about him, that it’s all falling off, this terrible thing he’s been through is falling off as he goes north.”

“I could go on about this for hours,” he added. [Source]
